100k and going…

Not done. At least not yet.
But, 100k was been reached and well before NaNoWrimo and bed time.
With November nearly upon us that means posts that will probably be consisted of Word Counts like this:

Kick Off Party went well at Blake’s Tavern, I think. The chicken parm wrap that reminded me of the Athena at Reflection’s Cafe. I’ll get separate bills next time and probably no appetizers since lunch was so big. Lunch time seemed to be a perfect time since we had the entire back room to ourselves.
Managed to pick up a AC Adaptor for my iPad, it’s longer than the one that came with it and should work out well for when the outlets are out of reach.
Once December rolls around, we shall return to our normal scheduled blog posts…

All Hallow's Eve…

Darkness falls across the land
The midnite hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize yawls neighbourhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpses shell
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzy ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller…

Riese on SyFy…

Riese started as a Web Series and just as I tried to play catch up one day, found out SyFy had picked them up.
SyFy recently started showing them and while I’m glad the station picked them up, I am a little weary about the voice over by Amanda Tapping. Weary not of Amanda Tapping, after playing Samantha “Black Widow*” Carter for nearly a decade her work on Sanctuary has been great.
Weary, due to I cannot stand voice overs and scrolling text.
Episode One:

Episode Two:

* Nicknamed since her character had gone through so many boyfriends in SG:1. On the upside most of them lived to see the end of the series. On the downside the one I enjoyed the most got Manchurian Candidated.

NaNoWrimo is upon us! And, so are tickets for SDCC…

It feels odd.
There is now WOW expansion pack coming out this year. I know I mentioned it before but they were coming out every single November it felt like they were doing it on purpose.
So with two days ago I’m at:

with the WIP from last year. Downloaded Office 2011 for Mac and so far it’s been working out fine for me. I may try my hand at Scrivener just to keep characters and locations straight.
Tomorrow is Rhode Island’s NaNoWrimo Kick Off Party at the Blake’s Tavern in Providence. Decided to take  Halloween off to get in some extra writing time in.  Top it off with some Walking Dead and it should be a good end to the month.
Times and locations for the Rhode Island Write Ins are can be found on our Facebook Page.
As for plot for this year’s sequel: I have a vague outline written down and plot points I want to hit which is much better than last year.
In other non-related NaNoWrimo News:
Just a friendly reminder for those who did not run attend Nerd Prom this year, tickets for SDCC go on sale on Monday.  Preview Night is completely sold out until SDCC put some tickets up like they always do. Part of me is glad I reserved my same place from last year so no hotel scramble for me next year. Price is $105 this year. So long as you can take the lines, the nerds, the plane fare and the hotels, it’s well worth it.
New England Web Comic Weekend arrives on November 6th-7th.  Probably the smallest con I’ve been to since a NH Con we went to back in the days of Totems but it’s a fun con since it’s mostly web comic guys. It’s great to see a the webcomics that started out as a fad and are now just as big as the bigs getting their own con and in area nearby that involves no hotel or airfare!  Eastworks Building is a fun building to walk around. They’ve posted a list of restaurants.
Congrats to my bro proposing to his girl friend Kellie on top of a rock wall at Rock Spot Climbing in Lincoln last week.
Lastly, Sherlock has arrived on Masterpiece Mysteries on PBS.

So long, Caprica…

I had mentioned a few weeks back on Twitter Caprica was on Dollhouse Watch and looks like that was confirmed today when Sy Fy canceled the show, pulled it from the line up and will burn off the remaining 4 episodes in Quarter 1 of 2011.
The good news is: Caprica is not Firefly and SyFy is not Fox.
The bad news is: Caprica started with a bang, killed off two main characters, resurrected them in Virtual Reality and whimpered under the weight of religious plot lines that even put me off.
SyFy did the right thing in the beginning by putting Caprica and Stargate Universe together since they were attempting the same thing: Give the audience a series that was set in an already established franchise without treading on new ground.
Stargate Universe started off a tad shaky had a Underweargate with Julia Benson then really found it’s voice and managed to balance the edge of the rebooted Battlestar with the fan-friendly easy going Stargate Universe.
Caprica on the other hand had several things going for it: The name, the actors and a great deal of space to fill in backstory since none of the flashbacks during BSG went as far back as Caprica.
So what the frack happened?
Well, a lot and nothing at all. With the writers staying far away from the somewhat convoluted info dump we received in the late seasons of BSG regarding the final five, the 13th Colony that nuked itself and instead focused on the birth of the Cylons, re-incarnation and the Cylons belief in one true god.
This made sense, most spin offs do a handing the torch from one generation to the next but since the final five are still in out there in space somewhere that axed any crossovers to get the ratings up.
In the end the writers tried to tackle monotheism/polytheism, the birth of AI and terrorism while making it all interesting. All the while bouncing back and forth between the real world and VR. Oh, and let’s not forget Patton Oswalt was probably the best thing of the entire show.
I wouldn’t say it was heady, I’d say the writers managed to make some of it work while other parts not. The fact they blew up one of their lead characters in the 2hr backdoor pilot was gusty but may have been too much too soon. Building up to the explosion in a mid season cliffhanger by showing the father and daughter geniuses of the Graystones tackling the Cyclon’s birth together would have been better I think. And, would made the Zoe character a little more likable.
The Adama plot lines with him being a Mob Lawyer was pretty good until they had no where else to go with it. The actors portrayed their parts extremely well. It’s just too bad nothing else on Caprica was as interesting as New Cap City.
But, from the ashes rises Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. The spinoff was greenlit while Caprica’s marching orders probably came down in the same breath. This spin off series is supposed to take place during Will Adama’s tour during the First Cylon War. And, from the sounds of the description the show is going Sanctuary with green screen effects and such. If anyone passed on BSG: Razor, I’d highly recommend watching the section of Adam finding one of the Base Stars. It was good stuff and if the writers regroup then the series will probably bring everyone back that was missing the bang bang shoot’em up toasters.

1 week to go until NaNoWrimo…

So with one week left to go for NaNoWrimo. The current draft of last years comes to:

A NaNoWrimo Version of Scrivener 2.0 has dropped. Scrivener along with Storyist is just two applications that is well rounded with character and location templates.
And, looks like Microsoft Office 2011 will be dropping on Tuesday.
In case anyone is looking for an iPad App to cover their NaNoWrimo needs, I’ve been bouncing back and forth between My Writing Nook and iA Writer and found iA Writer has simplest and smoothest.  The Dropbox upload is perfect for backing up your files quickly.
A few quick recommendations for everyone: Make sure to check your auto-save options are turned on, if you don’t have a Dropbox account or flashdrive, I recommend getting both.  Better to back up it all up then lose a revision.
Overall, it should be a good November, I think.
The good news is World of Warcraft: Cataclysm doesn’t drop until December.
